What made Jurgen Klopp laugh on touchline as Thiago perplexed by Liverpool decision

Liverpool suffered a fourth successive home Premier League defeat when they lost to Everton on Saturday.

The Reds' goalscoring issues were laid bare as they slumped to a dismal 2-0 reverse, their first derby defeat on their own patch for 22 years.

The result means Jurgen Klopp’s side remain ahead of their neighbours only on goal difference and face a continued scrap for Champions League qualification.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Anfield.

Thiago disbelief

There was plenty of head-scratching among the Liverpool ranks as they yet again struggled to turn dominance into goals.

And there was one player in particular left perplexed.

At least that's how it appeared on the face of Thiago Alcantara after he was substituted three minutes before time for Divock Origi.

It took the disgruntled Spaniard so long to walk from the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand back to the dugout that the game had almost finished by the time he got there.

Klopp also can't believe it

Another day, another injury. And, as Jurgen Klopp expected, it was to someone playing at centre-back.

Small wonder, then, that the Reds boss was left laughing incredulously at the sight of Jordan Henderson hitting the deck shortly before the half-hour with what turned out to be a groin problem.

Henderson, meanwhile, could be heard shouting "you're joking" at the realisation he was heading for the busy treatment room.

Sadly for Liverpool, there was nothing to smile about. Again.

And neither can Shaqiri

Liverpool are growing used to watching the ball fly anywhere but in the opponents' net at Anfield this year.

That, though, doesn't make it any easier to take.

And when Roberto Firmino ended one promising Reds move by sending a left-footed shot high into the Kop, the howl of frustrated anguish from substitute Xherdan Shaqiri could probably be heard across the city.

You and the rest of us, Shaq.

Kop welcomes newcomer

Strange are the days when the removal of a banner becomes a mild talking point among the few inside Anfield on matchday.

Such was the case against Manchester City the other week, when the large adornment directly behind the Kop goal was noticeably absent.

Reassuring, then, to see it back in place on Saturday. And it was joined by a new banner depicting the four trophies won in the last two years and a trademark Klopp fist pump.

Liverpool fans will hope it isn't long before they start seeing the Reds boss doing that again.
