What 'mad' Virgil van Dijk did after Toby Alderweireld's own goal at Liverpool

Is it any wonder that Liverpool fans are starting to believe that their long run without a league title could soon be over?

Just as Sunday's hard-fought clash with Tottenham looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw, Hugo Lloris spilled Mohamed Salah's header straight onto Toby Alderweireld's leg, and there was little the Belgian could do as the ball trickled over the line.

Cue bedlam in front of the Kop.

Salah wheeled away and was initially joined by Roberto Firmino and then the rest of his teammates in the type of raucous celebrations that have become commonplace at that end of the ground over the years, but soon the eyes were drawn to Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman - who was now wearing the captain's armband following the withdrawals of Jordan Henderson and James Milner - trotted along behind the celebrations, and had somehow managed to acquire the ball from the back of the net.

With the clock about to tick over into four added minutes, Van Dijk then sensed the perfect opportunity to waste some time, and booted the ball high into the Anfield stands.

The incident was captured in a video from Reds fan '@Riddock__' who posted it on Twitter writing: "Van Dijk kicking the ball out of the stadium. what a mad lad haha."

And several other fans then gave their take on just where the ball could have ended up.

Have you seen Van Dijk's ball?!
