What Lucas Torreira has said about his Arsenal future amid 'transfer decision' and AC Milan link

Arsenal's January transfer window looks set to be dominated by rumours of one key departure.

According to Calciomercato, Lucas Torreira is unsatisfied with life in north London and doesn't understand his role in Unai Emery's plans and will therefore request that the Gunners listen to offers for him in the new year.

This is set to alert AC Milan who were linked with a move for the Uruguay international during the summer transfer window.

Torreira became a fan favourite during his first season at the Emirates Stadium following a £27million move from Sampdoria, but this term the 23-year-old has slipped down the pecking order behind Granit Xhaka, Matteo Guendouzi and Dani Ceballos.

Whilst the majority of Gunners fans would rather see Torreira stay, is a return to Italy a real possibility?

When comparing Serie A to the Premier League during the summer, it's clear to see what his preference is.

"I don't know if there are many things that I enjoy. I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, a very large country. The language [barrier] has stopped me, to be able to relate with my teammates and with the people. It is very difficult when you can't have dialogue.

"And so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy. It is strange a little bit, the sun, the more of us that we are here and we are accustomed to having always or almost always the sun.

"But as the years pass, I'm going to be adapting."

With that said, a few weeks after those comments Torreira did speak of his fondness for London.

"It's been a pretty big change for me, coming from Sampdoria," Torreira told FourFourTwo . "Genoa is a much smaller city than London, but every week I feel more comfortable and learn new things about the way of life.

"When I arrived, we saw traditional landmarks like Buckingham Palace, trying to get my bearings. Now it feels more like home."
