What Lucas Torreira did during Arsenal's defeat to Brentford amid transfer rumours

Arsenal suffered the worst possible start to the season on Friday evening as they were beaten 2-0 by newly-promoted Brentford.

The Bees, who were playing their first-ever match in the Premier League, scored either side of half-time to beat the Gunners and inflict pressure on Mikel Arteta's side after just one game of the campaign.

The defensive problems once again were Arsenal's downfall despite Ben White, who cost £50million, making his competitive debut for his new side.

One man who wasn't in the squad was midfielder Lucas Torreira, who continues to be linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 25-year-old, who is now into the final two years of his Gunners contract, spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, and could leave England before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Uruguay international is admired by Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri and the former Chelsea manager wants to bring him to Rome.

Torreira took to Twitter on Friday evening to share what he did in the day, which perhaps was not the best timing considering his team were being beaten by Brentford at the time of posting (9pm).

The out-of-favour Arsenal midfielder went to a theme park in Madrid, where he lived last season when on loan at Atletico.

Torreira, when speaking last month, admitted his frustrations at the Gunners

"A year ago I had been working with a psychologist in Spain because when in the second year at Arsenal I played very little," Torreira said, via the Metro.

"It was hard for me to really assimilate it because my life depends on football and when I don’t play I have a very bad time, I am in a very bad mood and many things happen.

"That is why I started with him and he was giving me a hand with that topic.

"Out there many years ago they told you 'but how are you going to go to a psychologist, are you crazy?' And today it is very important, especially for us who live a lot of situations being away from the family," he concluded.
