What Louis van Gaal did when Wayne Rooney told him about infamous boxing video

Wayne Rooney would have been worried turning up at Carrington to tell his manager Louis van Gaal about his boxing shame with Phil Bardsley.

But he needn't have worried.

Then Manchester United star Rooney was videoed getting knocked out by pal Bardsley in his kitchen back in 2015.

Rooney was given warning that the clip would be in the front page of a national newspaper and was forced to approach boss van Gaal to give him a heads up.

But instead of a telling off, the Dutchman found the incident hilarious.

Rooney told Eddie Hearn on podcast No Passion, No Point : “When it was coming out, I went to see van Gaal.

“I said ‘this story’s coming out about me and Phil Bardsley fighting in the house’.

“And he p***** himself laughing. He found it hilarious.”

Rooney mocked himself in a following match against Tottenham , when he netted in a 3-0 victory before mimicking the KO for his celebration.

And the England legend has revealed how that wasn't the last time he and Bardsley boxed each other.

“On the night with Bardo, we’d been out," Rooney added. "After that, we went home and put on the gloves on.

“We do it quite regularly. We’ve done worse but that got out.

“The video stops when I get knocked down – but I actually get up and we carry on fighting.

“When we finished, the two of us were just sitting there.  My nose had gone and Bardo’s got blood pouring out of his mouth.”
