What local product could Chargers add in 2019 NFL draft

The Chargers traveled less than half an hour to take part in viewing the handful of prospects on display for USC’s Pro Day on Wednesday.

Just last year Los Angeles found a Trojan that they fell in love with in linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who ultimately was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft.

L.A. was well represented with their decision makers on hand, along with Nwosu himself, to try to see if they can score another player right there in the team’s backyard.

Given the areas of need on the roster at the offensive tackle, defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and free safety position, there are four former USC products that could’ve grabbed the attention of the Chargers.

Offensive tackle Chuma Edoga is the first Trojan that’ll likely be selected who could serve as a great mid-round option. Edoga is an impressive pass protector and run blocker, using great footwork and lateral agility to get the job done.

Linebacker Cameron Smith is a mid-late round option for a team that’s in need of shoring up the position. While Smith is not going to win with athleticism, he makes up for it by playing with a high football IQ and is reliable as a run defender out in space.

Cornerback Iman Marshall could be considered as Los Angeles will look to add depth to the cornerback room. Marshall possesses good size at 6-foot-1 and 207 pound, and it shows on film where he plays physical at the line of scrimmage to make life more difficult for bigger receivers.

Safety Marvell Tell fits the mold as a free safety, which is something the Bolts will be looking for after the departure of Jahleel Addae. Tell displays adequate range, a good feel for coverage and is above average in run defense.

The bottom line is that the Chargers have a knack for bringing in local product in previous years, and these four players could very well be in consideration next month.
