What Liverpool players have been told to help ease title anxiety

Liverpool have reportedly delivered advice to their players in order to help with any Premier League title anxiety.

According to the Daily Mail, who state they have seen a presentation by the Reds' sports psychologist Lee Richardson, the club have told the players what happens with the Premier League title is out of their control and to focus on the effort of minimising coronavirus infection rates.

The football stars were also offered breathing tips to help ease anxiety levels while also being warned not to post anything on social media that could be deemed insensitive by others.

The self-help document is called ‘Mental Health & Well-being’ and is said to have been produced earlier this month.

A section titled ‘Acceptance and Control’, reportedly reads: "What happens with the decision of the Premier League or the direction the virus takes next is out of our control.

"All we can control is our behaviour and our response to the challenge of keeping the most vulnerable safe and minimising infection rates.

"In focusing on the controllable and in accepting that which we cannot control, i.e. Premier League, government response, we give ourselves the best chance of overcoming the psychological challenge of keeping perspective. As the manager has said, football is not the most important thing. The health and safety of us all is far more important."

Liverpool were just six points away from claiming their first top-flight crown in three decades, having amassed a 25-point gap over nearest rivals Manchester City, before all elite football was suspended by football's governing bodies amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

Last week, a decision was made to extend this season indefinitely to give the 2019/20 campaign every chance of being completed.
