What Liverpool players and Jurgen Klopp did at the final whistle after Southampton win

It says everything about the humility of this remarkable Liverpool side that their first thoughts were not to turn to the crowd to lap up the most well-deserved of applause.

The Reds had just produced a superb second-half performance to sweep aside Southampton to win 4-0 and move an unbelievable 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Kop and the three other sides of Anfield were waiting for their heroes, who have now won 24 of their first 25 league games of the season.

But from Mohamed Salah to Roberto Firmino, and Virgil van Dijk to manager Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool squad sought out Danny Ings.

Ings, of course, was returning to Anfield with his new club Southampton, for whom he has scored 14 league goals this season after making his loan move to St Mary's from Anfield permanent in the summer.

The striker's hopes of forging a career with the Reds were hampered by serious injury and then by the form of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah

But he was well-loved at Liverpool, both by staff and fans alike, and that was underlined at the end of this afternoon's match when he was embraced by his former team-mates and manager (SEE VIDEO AT TOP OF THIS STORY).

It was a classy touch from a classy team.
