What Liverpool fans did when news of Rafa Benitez Everton sacking spread at Anfield

Liverpool supporters were quick to recognise the sacking of Rafael Benitez at Everton today.

The Reds were in Premier League action at home to Brentford when news broke Benitez had been relieved of his duties at Goodison.

The Spaniard was given the axe after a dreadful run of results culminated in an embarrassing 2-1 reverse at relegation-threatened Norwich City on Saturday.

Benitez had spent six years in charge of Liverpool between 2004 and 2010, winning the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup in 2005 and the FA Cup the following year.

And shortly before the second half started at Anfield, the Kop broke out into an old chant of “Rafa, Rafael, Rafael Benitez” in tribute to their former boss.

Benitez’s Liverpool links made him a huge controversial appointment among Everton supporters when he was given the job of Blues manager by owner Farhad Moshiri last summer.
