What Liverpool did against Manchester City that Tottenham must replicate in Champions League

European nights at White Hart Lane were something special.

And the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host its first ever Champions League clash on Tuesday night when Spurs play host to Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Spurs are the outsiders for the tie, taking on Premier League champions and Champions League favourites City over two legs.

But City went out of the competition at this stage last season, losing 5-1 on aggregate, with the Reds picking up a 3-0 victory in the home league at Anfield.

The big decision Pep Guardiola has made ahead of Man City's Champions League clash with Spurs

And Tottenham star Harry Winks believes the Spurs fans, packed inside the stunning new ground, will have a big part to play.

He said: "We're looking forward to it, it's going to be another amazing night, one that everyone's looking forward to. Hopefully the fans can create the same atmosphere, which I'm sure they can.

"From what I gather it can be quite a daunting place for the opposition and that's all credit to the fans and the sound they make in the stadium and if they can create that next week it could be a good night for us.

"It is a place we can settle in to quickly and call home, and make it difficult for opposition to come to.

"I saw that [Liverpool win last season], but ultimately it's how we perform on the pitch.

"Of course the fans play a massive role in creating that atmosphere and helping us out, but the most important thing is how we play, how we set ourselves out, and if we perform like we did [against Crystal Palace], and press like we did, it can be a difficult game for City."

New footage reveals what Harry Kane told Hugo Lloris in tunnel was key to Spurs' new stadium win

When it was suggested the new stadium was not for Europa League football, Winks gave a shot response with a smile on his face.

"Let's hope not," he admitted.
