What Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told Philippe Coutinho after he completed Bayern Munich loan move

Philippe Coutinho has revealed that he was contacted by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after sealing a loan move to Bayern Munich last month.

The former Reds star played under Klopp for just over two years before completing a £142million switch to Barcelona in January 2018.

However, the dream move to Camp Nou failed to work out and after much speculation, the Brazil international joined German giants Bayern on loan with an option to make permanent next summer for around £110m.

It was under Klopp that Coutinho developed into a world-class talent capable of commanding fee north of £100m and the South American is appreciative of what the Reds manager has done for his career.

And the ex- Liverpool star has now explained how Klopp messaged him after the loan move to the Bundesliga champions was complete.

Coutinho told Bild: "[Klopp] sent me a message and wished me the best of luck.

"He wrote that Bayern is a big club, that the Bundesliga is a great league and that he is very happy to see me there."

Liverpool had finished sixth in the Premier League just a few months before Klopp's October 2015 arrival as manager and within four years, the German has turned the Reds into one of the world's elite sides.

Last season's Premier League runners-up have contested the last two Champions League finals and won their sixth European Cup with a 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid on June 1.

Coutinho detailed how Klopp "breathed new life" into the Reds upon his arrival and said he was honoured to work with the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

"He's just a great coach, one of the best in the world," added Coutinho. "He is a real leader. I learned so much from him, especially on a mental level.

"He changed Liverpool. He breathed new life into the club, made it really strong again. It was an honor to work with him."

Coutinho has made two appearances for Bayern so far this term and was part of the Brazil side that were beaten 1-0 by Peru on Wednesday.
