What Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told Mohamed Salah after win against Tottenham

Jurgen Klopp told his players that beating Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday was more important than playing well.

Liverpool secured three points after a dramatic last-minute own goal from Toby Alderweireld and moved Liverpool verdict - Reds are a team to cherish as late win against Spurs keeps title dream alive.

The winner came after a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold which Mohamed Salah headed goalwards only for Hugo Lloris to parry away into the path of Alderweireld, who could not help turning the ball into his own net.

Egyptian Salah revealed exactly what Klopp told his players in the changing room after the match as the title race enters its final stages.

“I went to the dressing room and I spoke to the manager," Salah told Sky Sports.

“He said that it isn’t about playing good but the most important thing is to find a way of winning points.

"The big teams always find a way to get the points.

“Today we didn’t play the top of our game but we won the game that is the most important thing - that is a big team."

And Salah, who failed to find the net for the eighth game in succession as the Reds edged out Mauricio Pochettino's side 2-1, provided the perfect response to questions about his form after the match.

“The important thing was to get three points,” Salah told Sky Sports. “I haven’t scored for a couple of games but there are some players who have the same number of goals as me but are having the season of their lives. I’m supposed to be having a bad season!”

Liverpool’s win over Spurs moved them into the top spot of the Premier League with six games remaining, while Manchester City still have seven left to play.

City’s match in hand comes at Manchester United on Wednesday, April 20.
