What life is like on Nottinghamshire estate with beautiful views

Nottinghamshire residents have shared why they love living on a new rural development with great views. The housing estate, Alexandra Place, by Davidsons Homes, is thriving, with many people settled in their new homes despite the project being hit by delays.

More than 100 properties will eventually be built on the development, which is located off the B684 Mapperley Plains. Residents started moving into their homes almost a year ago and say they love living there.

Sales manager Lewis Hampshire, 30, was one of the first on the site and has been there just under a 12 months. He said: "It's really good.

"It can be quite noisy during the week (as work to build more properties is ongoing) but during the weekend work stops and it's quite quiet. We previously lived on a Davidsons build in Arnold before and they are a premium builder.

"A lot of new builds get a lot of hate, but they are a premium build and so the quality is great." When asked if there was anything the area needed, Lewis replied: "The population is building up around here so we could maybe do with a few more things, like a shop a bit closer would be good."

Speaking of his favourite thing about the development, he added: "I think it's just the location. It's quiet, it's close to town but at the same time it's got that countryside feel to it."

A retired 65-year-old who did not wish to be named explained she and her husband moved on to the development in May 2022. She said: "It was a time in our lives what we were reaching retirement and we wanted to downsize as we lived in a big old Victorian house in Mapperley, which was cold and drafty.

"We would like to meet more neighbours and I'm keen to meet people. I've thought about setting up a neighbourhood WhatsApp group." She explained that they lived in their previous home for 43 years and love Mapperley, which is full of "nice walks".

The 65-year-old added: "We've got a lovely view from the back, whereas people on the other side are all backing onto each other." She explained she liked living in a rural area but "would like the 46 bus to have a bus stop nearer the housing estate, as it's quite a long walk when you have a heavy bag of shopping".

Retired Nev Ball, 62, also loves living on the development. He said: "It's spot on and it's nice and quiet.

"You have Mapperley Top down the road, so it's all within an easy distance. I just like it because it's secluded and it's on its own - it's private."

Ashley Rout, 28, and Millie Timperley, 24, are also enjoying living on the estate after buying their first home together. Ashley said: "We've been here about eight months - the location is pretty nice, it's good."

Millie explained that they "haven't really spoken to many neighbours yet" as homes are still being built and people are still moving in. She added: "It will be nice and quiet when it's all done."

When asked if the area needed anything else, Ashley replied: "I think everything is nearby - there's shops, a leisure centre and takeaways at Mapperley Top. There are schools nearby and there's Gedling Country Park."
