In What Lies Buried Rises, curator Dianne Jones and artists Della and Genevieve Grieves respond to the 1839 murder of a white woman, Sarah Cook, and her child in the small town of York in Western Australia. Two local Aboriginal men were accused of the murder and were hung and gibbetted for their crime. This murder and the events that followed gave rise to the worst massacres in West Australian history, and provides the basis for this exhibition.
