What Leicester's James Maddison decision means for Arsenal and Spurs amid Youri Tielemans battle

Leicester City's latest James Maddison move could spell positive news for both Arsenal and Spurs as the pair remain hopeful in the transfer races for two of the Foxes stars whose futures will depend on other outgoings.

Both north London clubs have so far signed 11 players between themselves but more moves could be on the cards for the pair if the right opportunities were to pop up. "We’re still hoping to do something else if the market allows us to do that," Mikel Arteta outlined after the Gunners' win over Sevilla.

"You've seen some movement in the other direction in the last few days so we want to get the perfect balance and the plan we wanted right at the beginning. Whether we can accomplish that or not is another story, but I’m happy with where we are now." The case of Maddison will interest both Arsenal and Spurs. Not because they are the favourites to sign the Coventry-born attacking midfielder this summer but the repercussions that could follow if Newcastle were to fail in their attempts to land him.

According to Toon reporter for Sky Sports Keith Downie: "Second Newcastle offer for James Maddison rejected by Leicester. Newcastle deciding whether to continue their pursuit of Maddison or move on to other targets. They don’t want to overpay for players due to FFP regulations."

The fact that Eddie Howe's side could move on to other targets will be music to the ears of all London clubs, in fact. For the Lilywhites, Newcastle moving on would give them a free run at landing Leicester's number 10 if they were to step up their pursuit in the forthcoming days amid their Nicolo Zaniolo preference.

Chelsea will be happy also with this development as Brendan Rodgers' side keeping hold of their star creator would open the doors potentially to a Wesley Fofana move which is currently hot on the agenda of interim Sporting Director Todd Boehly.

Most significantly though, Arsenal will be given the most encouragement out of the London trio due to the fact that Maddison staying put would mean that a Youri Tielemans move wouldn't be such a significant blow to the East Midlands side.

With only one year to go on his deal, cashing in on the Belgian may not seem like such a bad idea from Rodgers' perspective, as long as the former Norwich man was to stay put and a suitable replacement will be found for the deeper midfield position.

Arsenal fans - would James Maddison being forced to stay at Leicester benefit the club's attempts to prise away Youri Tielemans before the September deadline?

Spurs fans - do you think there is any chance of the club making their move for Maddison or would Nicolo Zaniolo be the better fit for Antonio Conte? Leave your thoughts on these two questions in the comments section below!
