What Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi said in response to £54m Arsenal transfer request

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has said that Arsenal 'already have Thomas Partey’ amid a request for him to sign for the Gunners in the future.

The Nigerian has caught the eye at the King Power Stadium since a 2017 arrival from Belgian outfit Genk.

He has made 185 appearances for the Foxes and has forged a reputation as one of the most consistent defensive midfielders in the Premier League. Ndidi has also played a key role in Leicester claiming the FA Cup and Community Shield under current boss Brendan Rodgers.

Now, the 24-year-old has been urged to join Arsenal, seemingly by a fan, who shared their exchange on social media.

Upon the demand, Ndidi pointed to the fact that the Gunners already have a quality option in his preferred position.

He replied: “You guys have Partey, he’s a great player.”

Despite that, there may have been some encouragement laid out by near-neighbours Chelsea that could potentially see Ndidi be tempted by a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Probed further about the prospect of linking up with Ghanaian Partey in the centre of the Arsenal midfield, Ndidi said: “Just like [Michael] Essien and [John Obi] Mikel.”

As it stands, there are currently no suggestions that the Gunners are actively pursuing a move for the Leicester man, either now, or in the immediate future.

The 34-time international still has just under three years left on his current contract at the King Power Stadium.

Ndidi is currently valued at £54m by transfermarkt, with only the arrivals of Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having cost the Gunners more.

He has made nine competitive appearances in all competitions throughout the current campaign but is restricted to the sidelines at the current time through injury and looks set to miss out on Leicester’s clash with Arsenal in the East Midlands at the end of the month.
