What Leeds United's senior players really think of all the youngsters Marcelo Bielsa chucks in

Adam Forshaw going down injured in the 22nd minute of Leeds United's Championship play-off semi-final first leg was not part of the script. However, as striker Kemar Roofe pointed out after the game, it's something the squad has got used to dealing with.

Injuries have become par for the course this season and Forshaw's injury was the latest in a long line, but throughout the season injuries have offered opportunities for players from the under-23s and, on Saturday, there was another turn for young midfielder Jamie Shackleton.

"That sums up our season," Kemar Roofe told the media after the game.

"We've had so many injuries and, especially the young lads, they've stepped up when they've needed to and it doesn't feel like we've lacked that player because an experienced one's gone down and a young one's come in. They've stepped up and performed."

Shackleton played the rest of the match, making two tackles, one shot on target, creating a chance, making a big impression on his team-mates and his head coach alike.

Asked if he thought Shackleton was phased by the importance of the game when he entered the pitch, Roofe said: "He took it in his stride. It didn't phase him one bit. He's done this all season so we're not surprised."

And Roofe is not the only one heaping praise on Shackleton. In the post-match press conference, Bielsa said: "He adapted immediately to the game. He defended well and he attacked well."
