Christian Fuchs has revealed Luke Ayling apologised to him after trying to win a penalty in Leeds United's defeat to Leicester City.
Ayling has been the subject of diving accusations after he went down in the penalty area despite a lack of contact from Fuchs.
With Fuchs sliding into a tackle, Ayling appeared to go down anticipating contact, but the Leicester defender did well to pull out of the tackle.
While Whites defender Ayling did not appeal for the penalty and got straight back to his feet, some have accused the 29-year-old of diving.
In a tweet, Fuchs has now revealed Ayling also apologised.
The Austrian centre-back also admitted it would have been a penalty had he not managed to avoid contact with Ayling.
He tweeted: "In all fairness, Luke Ayling excused himself right after the penalty incident and after the game for his dive.
"If I went all the way in it would have been a penalty for sure. Thanks for the great game, Luke!"
The Whites were trailing 2-1 at the time, meaning a penalty would have given them the perfect opportunity to get back into the contest.
Yet referee Andre Marriner waved play on, with the Foxes recording a 4-1 victory.
Fuchs's response, and admission Ayling apologised, received praise from some fans on social media.
"Classy," one said. "Should have still been a yellow though. Marriner bottled a lot that game."
Another replied: "Good man. Could have taken him out if you wanted to."
The Whites will be looking to bounce back from their defeat when they travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday ahead of a two-week international break.
