What Lee Johnson said when asked about his Bristol City future with a year left to run on his contract

Lee Johnson says he will stay at Bristol City as long as the club has the same ambitions as he does.

The Robins boss has been in charge of the club since 2016 and has overseen two Championship play-off battles, with his side still holding a glimmer of hope for a top-six finish this season.

His contract expires at the end of next season but Johnson says he is in a perfect place at the Robins.

"I certainly hope so," he said when asked by the BBC if he intended to stay next season.

"I think as long as the club is matching my ambition and I’m matching the club’s ambition then it’s the perfect team because hopefully the trust is there.

"I’m very ambitious but I’m ambitious for the football club that I’m at. I think that’s the key.

"I’ve got a year left on my contract and I don’t expect to not see that out."

In the same interview, Johnson admitted being manager of the Robins was a relentless job, but one he would not change for anything.

He said: "Of course it is. I’ll come home, play with my little 'un for a bit, and then it straight onto the laptop watching the opposition or potential recruits for the summer. It’s non-stop but it’s also brilliant.

"I’m at a club where I thoroughly enjoy coming to work every day because of the people, because of the history of the football club, it’s a great city that we live in and we want to bring top level football to this city."
