What league do Marine AFC play in and where are they based as they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup

Marine AFC are taking on one of their biggest games today as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.

The game kicks off at 5pm on Sunday (January 10) amidst a full day of third round matches.

Marine, whose entire squad play football part-time, have been thrown into the spotlight as they prepare for the biggest game in their 126-year existence.

Jose Mourinho's side are heading Marine's home of Crosby, the coastal town in Sefton, Merseyside.

The team, managed by former Chester boss Neil Young, currently plays in the Northern Premier League Division One North West - a whole 161 places below their Spurs rivals.

This means it's the biggest gap between teams in the football pyramid for an FA Cup third round tie ever.

Marine, formed in 1894 by a group of local businessmen and former college students, play at Marine Travel Arena in Crosby, formerly known as Rossett Park, and are currently sixth in Northern Premier League Division One North West.

The side includes midfielder James Barrigan, a refuse collector by day, who is a former Wigan Athletic youngster.

Josh Solomon-Davies also features and he currently works for the NHS's track and trace system.

It's been a big build up to the clash for Marine as, with backing from the likes of Ian Wright and Gary Lineker, the team has managed to sell more than 20,000 virtual tickets for the game.
