What latest tier announcement means for Notts County fans

Notts County fans' hopes of returning to watch games at Meadow Lane have been ruined after the city remained in tier three restrictions.

A considerable drop in Covid-19 cases had raised expectation that Nottingham would be moved into tier two, therefore allowing Notts to welcome up to 2,000 supporters into the stadium.

But the government has announced there will be no change for Nottingham despite latest figures showing that 72 council areas that are already in tier two measures have higher infection rates.

The news comes as a blow to Notts fans who had been hoping the city's progress in reducing the number of cases would pave the way for them to return to games.

Nottingham was the sixth worst area in the country to be affected by Covid, but has witnessed a decline in cases as a result of being placed into tier three measures.

The situation is now likely to be reviewed by the government again in January.
