What landing transfer Justice Sueing means for Ohio State basketball

Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann already landed guard C.J. Wilson who will be eligible for the first time this coming winter after sitting out a year, and now news of another transfer for the future with the announcement of Cal’s Justice Sueing.

But what does it all mean for Ohio State other than another warm body to plug into the lineup?

While the 2019-2020 looks to be promising for Ohio State basketball, the 2020-21 class just got a major boost with the commitment. A steady hand — one in which you kind of know what you’re getting.

After spending the last two seasons in the Pac-12, will now come to the Big Ten and provide depth. length and scoring at the wing position.

Sueing, a 6-foot-7 forward, led the Golden Bears in scoring and rebounding last season (14.3 points, six rebounds) on 43 percent shooting in a 8-23 season. That means more versatility for Ohio State for a year in which the Buckeyes will lose Andre Wesson.

Sueing was rated as the 13th-best transfer player according to ESPN which means this isn’t just the catch of a small fish, but one that could factor in immediately in the 2020-21 season.

With two years of eligibility left starting that season, he should be a key piece on for a lineup that will have three maturing players included in the exceptional recruiting class coming in. At that point, it could be a good mix of emerging youth and veterans with Sueing adding scoring, rebounding and athleticism that should fit nicely.

His addition puts the Buckeyes at thirteen scholarship players for the upcoming season.

Head coach Chris Holtmann said a month ago that Ohio State will always pursue players in the transfer portal despite having to sit out a season. So far, so good.
