Chelsea will take part in their third ever UEFA Champions League final this weekend as they face Premier League rivals Manchester City in the biggest game in European club football.
The two sides clash at FC Porto’s Estadio do Dragao tonight, with kick-off set for 8pm.
Officially, Thomas Tuchel’s men have been assigned as the ‘away’ team for the match, with that decision being made by UEFA ahead of the semi-final clashes.
It was drawn that the winners of Manchester City’s meeting with Paris Saint-Germain, a clash that Pep Guardiola's men won 4-1 on aggregate, would be named as the official ‘home’ team for the final.
Despite that, Chelsea will not be forced by UEFA to wear their away colours for the game.
Unless there is a stark clash with Manchester City’s home strip, the Blues should be okay to wear their standard royal blue first kit.
Considering that both sides wore their home kits for each of their Premier League meetings at Stamford Bridge and the Etihad Stadium so far this season, whilst also donning the same shirts at Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup semi-final, it seems highly unlikely that there would be a problem this time around.
It would of course be the third time that the Londoners have worn their ‘home’ shirt in a UEFA Champions League final.
Facing Manchester United in 2008, Chelsea donned blue - although that game ended in defeat via a penalty shootout.
Meanwhile, for their clash with Bayern Munich four years later, they once again were able to wear their home shirt with the German giants also sporting their iconic red strip.
The Blues were more successful in Munich as Didier Drogba’s penalty secured the club their first Champions League title.
