What Kilmarnock manager Tommy Wright said after his side's draw with Ross County

Tommy Wright says Saturday's performance was one of Kilmarnock’s poorest since he took over as manager after his side blew a chance to climb above Ross County.

However, the Rugby Park gaffer was still happy with a point from the 2-2 draw and reckons it could be crucial come the end of the season.

Chris Burke had fired Killie into a second-minute lead and they led again through Mitch Pinnock after Michael Gardyne had levelled.

But Alex Iacovitti’s second-half header ensured Killie stayed second-bottom of the Premiership table.

Wright said: “We asked for a fast start and we got it but we conceded far too early and too cheaply for my liking.

“It’s never nice when you concede so quickly after taking the lead.

“But fair play, the players scrapped and got us ahead at half-time. Ross County equalised and it probably wasn’t until the last 20-25 minutes that we took any real control of the game.

“In that time we’d two or three good opportunities but couldn’t get that third goal to get us a victory.

“It is encouraging we’re scoring goals.”

Wright added: “If you’re talking about performance overall, how I like the team to play and how they have been playing, it’s probably been one of our poorer ones – and the players know that.

“They are in the dressing room discussing that but we still scored two goals.

“You have to give the opposition credit as well, they made it difficult for us, they were physical and won a lot of second balls. They caused us a few problems.

“But, listen, it’s a good point and it’s a point away from the bottom of the table so we’ve still got a lot to play for.”

Kilmarnock take a break from league action this weekend as they prepare to face League One Montrose at home in the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
