What Kevin Volland has said about a move to the Premier League as Arsenal make transfer decision

Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland has admitted he would be "very interested" in moving to the Premier League amid links with Arsenal.

The Gunners reportedly turned down the opportunity to make a move for Volland after Mikel Arteta replaced Unai Emery as head coach in December.

According to ESPN, the Gunners scouted Volland on numerous occasions after former boss Emery earmarked the German as a possible signing.

The report claims Arsenal contacted the striker's agent ahead of a possible bid and even continued to monitor the 27-year-old after Emery was sacked in November.

However, Arteta's arrival in the Emirates hotseat spelt the end of any potential move for the Leverkusen forward, with the Spaniard reportedly raising concerns about the player with head of football Raul Sanllehi and director Edu.

Arteta also made it clear that other areas of the squad required strengthening first, with the Gunners going on to sign defenders Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari on loan during the January transfer window.

However, the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains uncertain with the striker yet to pen a new contract at the club.

Similarly, Alexandre Lacazette has been linked with a move away, so a future move for Volland could materialise.

Earlier in the year, Volland was quoted by Goal as saying: "The Premier League is a very interesting league for me.

"The pace is extremely high, the league requires a lot of willingness to run - that would be fine for me. But you never know what will happen.

"I am also not the type of person who says, 'I have to play again in England, Italy or Spain'.

"I feel very comfortable in Leverkusen and leave everything open."

The 27-year-old has just over a year left on his current deal with the Bundesliga club.
