What Jurgen Klopp said to Marko Grujic before Hertha Berlin transfer - and the midfielder's Liverpool vow

Marko Grujic has revealed the role Jurgen Klopp played in his decision to return to Hertha Berlin on loan.

The Serbian made 22 Bundesliga appearances for the Germans last season after initially struggling with an ankle injury.

But having impressed despite stints on the sidelines in Berlin, Hertha were one of a number of sides looking to sign the midfielder temporarily this season.

Still determined to break into the Liverpool first team, Grujic has revealed Klopp advised him on returning to the Bundesliga.

And with the 23-year-old hoping his injury woes are a thing of the past, he's determined to use another season at Hertha as a springboard into the Reds' squad next season.

"I was in Liverpool for a few days after last season, did some medical tests," Grujic told Sport Bild. "We (Klopp and I) sat together and talked about my plans.

"My contract at Liverpool runs until 2023. We both saw it in a similar way: I only managed to make the most of 50 per cent of my opportunities in Berlin. Minor injuries knocked me back.

"It's another reason why I didn't want to leave. I have unfinished business at Hertha.

"He also found that it is better for my development to stay in the Bundesliga for another year."

He continued: "I always realise that I belong to such a big club and it's where I want to be.

"If I play 34 very good games for Hertha, the chance to be a true Liverpool player next year is great."
