Jurgen Klopp has joked that Fabinho clearly prefers playing in midfield after the Brazilian's performance in Liverpool's victory over RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.
Having spent the majority of the season so far utilised as an emergency centre-back because of injuries elsewhere, the 27-year-old was reinstated in his preferred position against the Bundesliga outfit as the Reds progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals.
With Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak also impressing at centre-back, Klopp was full of praise for Liverpool 's defensive display and revealed a conversation he'd shared with Fabinho in the stadium tunnel after the game.
“I told him on the way downstairs: ‘You like the position six more than the other one, huh?’" he told BT Sport. "He couldn’t show it more clearly.
"We all want Fab on the six, that’s how it is, tonight he played there and the two centre-backs played an incredible game.
"The whole last line played a really good game because that’s really a hard task, Leipzig. They have runners everywhere, so you have to be high - but not too high.”
