What Jurgen Klopp has said about Naby Keita that sheds light on his Liverpool future

Naby Keita has been linked with a shock move away from Liverpool after just one season.

But it's very unlikely the midfielder will sign for either Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund - the clubs he has been linked with - when the summer transfer window opens, especially when you consider what Jurgen Klopp has said about him in recent months.

The Reds splashed out £50million to sign Keita in the summer, after agreeing to the deal the season previous.

He started the season well but has struggled to cement a regular spot in Klopp's first team, which is where the speculation he could leave appears to have stemmed from.

The Reds boss hasn't addressed the transfer rumour directly, meaning it is hard to know his genuine feelings on the issue.

But comments he made about Keita just a month ago suggest the midfielder isn't going anywhere.

"There is still a lot to come because he is still adapting," said Klopp.

"Sometimes it takes longer, that's how it is. People lose patience, that's normal – but we don't. For a young boy, he made a big move from Leipzig to Liverpool; he wants to do it right."

Klopp has a good track record of allowing players time to settle in at Liverpool.

This season both Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri have been gradually introduced to the first team and rotated with the rest of the squad.

Even Scotland captain Andy Robertson - who is one of the first names on the teamsheet these days - was given time to get up to speed.

Keita may be taking slightly longer to settle in than perhaps Liverpool hoped or expected, but Klopp isn't one to give up on his players easily.
