What Jose Mourinho said to Ralph Hasenhuttl after Tottenham's 3-2 FA Cup win over Southampton

Jose Mourinho has conceded that his Tottenham Hotspur side are fortunate to be in the FA Cup fifth round.

With 15 minutes remaining of the fourth round replay against Southampton on Wedensday night, the Lilywhites were 2-1 down at home after Shane Long and Danny Ings had cancelled out Jack Stephens' first-half own goal.

However, two goals in the space of 10 minutes turned the game on its head.

Premier League chief assesses VAR impact

Firstly Lucas Moura equalised with a fine strike and then Son Heung-min completed the turnaround as he expertly tucked home from the penalty spot after being brought down by Angus Gunn.

In truth, the Saints had enough chances to have won the game.

But they were made to rue those missed chances inside the final 10 minutes and it will be the north London outfit facing Norwich City in the fifth round next month.

And when the final whistle blew at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Mourinho made his way over to Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl for the customary post-match handshake.

It was picked up by BT Sport as to what the Portuguese tactician said.

He admitted to Hasenhuttl that "the best team lost".

Mourinho will have been relieved to have come through the tie after revealing how seriously he's taking the competition this season.

"l have spoken many times in this column and the media about my love for the FA Cup. It is a competition we all want to win and I am certain the players will show that this evening with the same determination and desire they demonstrated against City," he said.

"We welcome this evening's visitors after facing them twice in quick succession recently, which means we are fully aware of their quality. We will need to be at the top of our game to progress past this strong Southampton side.

"Meanwhile, we are looking forward to our Champions League round of 16 first leg against RB Leipzig which comes in a busy period for us,just three days after our trip to Aston Villa.

"While we are still in the FA Cup we will always dream of lifting that famous trophy, so please get behind the players tonight and show them how much you also believe. I hope you enjoy your evening with us."
