Arsenal had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to thank for their first three points of the season as they beat Newcastle United at St James' Park.
The Gabonese was the joint Golden Boot winner last season, alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and he started the new season as he meant to go on with the only goal of the game at St James' Park.
Aubameyang controlled a brilliant cross from Ainsley Maitland-Niles before dinking a shot over the advancing Martin Dubravka to win the match for the Gunners.
It was not a great spectacle to open the Premier League season, but Arsenal will not care.
Aubameyang had a couple of other opportunities in the contest, but had to settle for just the one goal in the end.
And in the Sky Sports studio, Jose Mourinho waxed lyrical about the Arsenal striker, suggesting that the goal he scored may have looked simple, but was anything but.
He said: "I think he loves to be in front of the keeper.
"Simplicity is sometimes genius. That control looks simple, but it's not simple, it's genius and then the finishing is beautiful."
After the game, Aubameyang said: "We fought today a lot. It was a great game against a good team. It was important to start with a win, last season we started badly, so we are happy.
"It is always positive for all the squad to win the first game, everyone is happy to get three points and we’re looking forward to winning more games."
