What Jose Mourinho said about Issa Diop amid Manchester United speculation

Manchester United are being linked with a move to sign West Ham defender Issa Diop in the summer transfer window, but it is a piece of gossip which might not surprise former manager Jose Mourinho.

Reports over the weekend have linked the French defender with a potential switch to Old Trafford in the coming weeks with the suggestion that £45million could be enough to convince West Ham to sell.

Many supporters were surprised when they heard the youngster was linked with a move to United this summer, but his performance against Mourinho's side earlier in the season suggests he has what it takes to make it at an even bigger side.

Diop put in a commanding performance back in September as West Ham brushed United aside to secure a 3-1 victory in the Premier League, and speaking after the match Mourinho heaped the praise on the youngster.

"A fantastic match," Mourinho told BT Sport following the defeat at the London Stadium. "Congratulations to the scout that found a 21-year-old kid Diop - a monster who dominated everything in the duels.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his defensive options in the summer transfer window with the likes of Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt also targeted for a move.

However, while Sky Sports claim that Diop, who impressed in his first campaign at the London Stadium last season, is also on United's radar a contrasting report from The Mirror states the club will resist any offers for his services this summer.
