What Jose Mourinho has said about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Manchester United return

Tottenham and Manchester United lock horns in the Premier League this evening (Wednesday) in a crucial test for the fight for European football - but the headline act is the man in the dugout.

Just weeks after his return to the Premier League, Jose Mourinho faces off against his former employers and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the man who succeeded him at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has not been away from football though, as he's regularly been appearing as a pundit for the likes of Sky Sports and BeIN Sports - where he has often spoken about Solskjaer and his former side.

Here, we've gathered a selection of quotes from Mourinho speaking about his predecessor at United - starting in April and bringing us right up to now.

Tactics against Barcelona - April 2019

“Manchester United in the first match, zonally they occupied that area very well – but I think in this match that they started with a different perspective.

“In front of the defensive line was only Fred. That’s the area that Lionel Messi comes to get the ball and when Messi has the ball… one, one, one…you are dead.

“That’s why I never liked individual man-on-man against Messi. Messi’s a cage, you have to create a cage. But Barcelona is Barcelona, they have better players than Manchester United and I think it’s normal they won.”

Man United v Tottenham: Premier League match preview

'Future' jibe - October 2019

"They did some good PR in the week to make it absolutely clear or create positive atmosphere for the game. I'm going to try to get a job like Ole has, and speak all the time about the future.

"I think it's a great situation, three year contract - the future, the young players. I think it's a great job to do in such a giant club."

'Clever' management - December 2019

"They were clever in that they were already qualified in the Europa League, so they rested all their players in the game at Astana, so they have one less game than us but that’s football. Of course, it will be a difficult match for us, but also a difficult match for them."
