Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has described Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as a "very good coach," amid reports that he could succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford following Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City and is understood to be increasingly at risk of losing his position as manager.
The defeat to City marked United's fourth defeat in their last six Premier League outings, leaving them nine points off the top of the table after just 11 games this season.
Their form has increased calls from the fans for United to sack Solskjaer, although it is understood that the club are not set to pull the trigger just yet, with no automatic successor in mind.
However, if United do elect to relieve Solskjaer of his duties, Leicester chief Rodgers is a name that an increasing number of Reds supporters would like to see installed as his replacement and the MEN understands he has admirers at Old Trafford.
Rodgers has overseen a terrific job at the King Power Stadium since arriving at the club February 2019, guiding them to back-to-back fifth-placed finishes in the Premier League and their first-ever FA Cup triumph.
Rodgers is held in very high regard by numerous managers across the Premier League, as well as former United boss Mourinho — who is now in charge of Italian giants Roma.
The Portuguese chief worked with Rodgers at Chelsea when the latter was in charge of the reserves, meaning he knows about the Northern Irishman more than most.
Ahead of a clash between Leicester and Tottenham Hotspur almost a year ago, Mourinho hailed Rodgers' work at Leicester, insisting it was no surprise to see them thriving under the former Liverpool and Celtic boss.
"I’m not impressed, I know how good he is," Mourinho said, speaking in December last year. "
When I met him as a young coach in the academy and coming to join us in the first team and sharing with us many moments, I understood that he was a young guy with a great future.
"So anything he’s doing in his career is not a surprise for me, not at all. He’s very talented, he was and probably still is a guy who likes to study, learn and improve.
"He’s creative, he knows what he wants. He’s a very good coach. Period. He’s a very good coach so it’s not a surprise for me."
