What Jose Mourinho has been told about replacing Emery at Arsenal instead of joining Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has been urged to pick Arsenal over Real Madrid when he decides on his next job in management.

The Portuguese manager has been without a coaching role since being sacked by Manchester United last season.

Reports claim the 56-year-old is keen to take charge of another Premier League side because he wants to become the first manager to win major honours with three English clubs, but the former Chelsea boss has also been linked with a return to Spain and Real Madrid.

Pressure is mounting on Unai Emery after Arsenal could only draw 1-1 with Wolves on Saturday, a result which puts a huge dent in their top four hopes.

Speaking after the game, Emery said: "Yes we are disappointed with the result but above all I think the players tried and worked.

"The most difficult thing against Wolves is to score the first goal, we took advantage but we needed to score the second goal to take more confidence than we had at 1-0.

"They are a strong team defensively but also they have good structure offensively. They have the habit of playing matches with that result and be consistent in trying to score to draw and they did that, so we lost the opportunity we had at 1-0.

"We tried to get in the box, we created some chances - they weren't very clear - but we created and also conceded less transitions in the last moments also. When we were pushing a lot, they also had a good transition but they didn't score.

"Really, I think it was an equal match and we deserved a little more than them but when you have that opportunity after 1-0 to achieve another advantage, we didn't do that."

Zinedine Zidane is also under scrutiny after Real Madrid's inconsistent start to the season. The La Liga giants sit second in their Champions League group, five points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain, and missed the chance to go top after a goalless draw against Real Betis on Saturday evening.

But according to The Times, those closest to Mourinho have told him that a move to north London would be the better option over a return to Madrid, should he decide to return to management.

Mourinho left Madrid in 2013 after three years at the helm under difficult circumstances, but Florentino Perez is thought to retain an excellent relationship with his former manager.
