What Jonathan David has said about his future amid Arsenal and RB Leipzig transfer links

Gent attacker Jonathan David has admitted that he would relish the opportunity to one day play in the Premier League as speculation continues to mount surrounding his future.

The Canadian international, 20, is being heavily linked with a move to both Arsenal and German outfit RB Leipzig at the moment, with both clubs keen on the idea of bolstering their attacking options in the next transfer window.

This season, David, who can operate as either an attacking-midfielder or a centre-forward, has scored 23 goals in 40 games for the Belgian club, as well as registering 10 assists, meaning he has played a direct hand in 33 goals his side have scored this term.

But whilst RB Leipzig, who are still waiting to discover if they will get the opportunity to continue their UEFA Champions League adventure because of the coronavirus, are keen on the idea of signing David as a replacement for Timo Werner, who is expected to leave the club in the next transfer window, the promising forward, who is known for his blistering pace, has previously admitted that he would "love" to test himself in the Premier League.

"I don’t really focus on that or think much about it,” David told The Guardian last month. “Right now, I’m playing almost every minute of every game and that has really helped me get to the level that I need to be.

"I just need to take a good step where I can make sure I am getting enough time on the pitch to keep developing.

"I don’t want to go somewhere and just stay on the bench so it’s about taking the right step.

"I want to become one of the best strikers in the world. That’s my goal.

"The Premier League is the best in the world and most competitive so obviously that is somewhere I would love to play in the future."
