What John Terry told Frank Lampard after Chelsea's brilliant 4-1 win against Southampton

Frank Lampard is making his debut season as Chelsea head coach look rather smooth.

Things did get off to the worst possible start for the Blues legend as his side were thumped 4-0 by Manchester United on the opening weekend of the new campaign and there has been defeats against Valencia and Liverpool as well as some frustrating results at Stamford Bridge.

But the past fortnight has seen the west London outfit string together four straight wins across all competitions.

The latest was a 4-1 win over Southampton at the weekend with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi all on the scoresheet at St Mary's.

Following the game Lampard took to social media and praised his players as well as the supporters.

"Well done to all our team yesterday," he wrote on Instagram. "The hard work continues.

"Fans were incredible as always."

To which Terry had a brilliant response which Chelsea fans will love.

"Brilliant Frank Lampard, great to watch mate," Terry said.

Despite the win which means the Blues have gone into the international break a point outside the top-four, Lampard insists there's still room for improvement.

"It is a difficult question because the expectations are hard to say, coming in fresh, because we knew there would be challenges and then you can’t always assess where everyone else is going to be and what might happen," he said in his post-match press conference.

"And I feel we are a few points short of where we should be in terms of performance. And that’s not bad luck, that’s just being self-critical.

"There are games we should have got more points from, and that’s on us. But I am pretty happy. I’m pretty happy that we’re in and around the group.

"Obviously Liverpool are out on their own at the minute but at this early stage we are in a nice position and it should give us determination to go away and come back in the same vein. Because the minute you relax in this league it can all change very quickly.

"And while we’re on a nice feel, the reason we are playing well is because of our hard work and how together we are and if we can keep going with that then yes, we will challenging right up there I hope."
