What John Terry said about the Chelsea academy stars in 2017 is coming true

Chelsea's young stars have been attracting all sorts of plaudits this term, but their success has been a long time coming.

The likes of Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham are products of the Blues' academy and showed glimpses of their huge potential as they progressed through the age groups.

While the academy players rarely train with the senior stars, it didn't stop word of their talent reaching then-Chelsea captain John Terry.

The club legend spoke to the Evening Standard in 2017 about Chelsea's young stars, and even backed them to make a bigger splash than wonderkid Kylian Mbappe.

Terry said: “When I came through at Chelsea I was given five or six games to find my feet and probably wasn’t even ready then.

"But I was given a lot of opportunity by the club, from the supporters, who wanted a homegrown player coming through.

“We’ve got so many at Chelsea who are ready. Monaco have a couple and everybody’s saying how good they are – believe me, we’ve got better players at Chelsea.

"Our boys are good enough, they just need the opportunity. Either that or they need to back themselves and go out on loan.

“What a lot of them do is get in the comfort zone at Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal and think ‘I’m happy here.”
