What Jamie Redknapp has said about Danny Rose as Spurs star makes post-football admission

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Jamie Redknapp has criticised Danny Rose for his attitude towards tackling racism after he claimed there is no point in him taking his coaching badges.

Rose was speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the home match with West Ham United on Saturday lunchtime when he insisted that the way other former black players have been treated post-retirement has not given him inspiration to also go into coaching.

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell is a perfect example of how difficult it has been for black managers to earn their first opportunity. Despite his expertise and experience from his playing career, Campbell's first gig has come in League Two with Macclesfield.

This led to Rose saying this on Sky Sports on Saturday: "There is a lack of black managers within football. People ask me if I want to do my coaching badges, why?

"You are not given a chance. I wouldn't be looking to do my coaching badges because it's a waste of time. Sol Campbell is a prime example who has had to start off in League Two, no disrespect to that league."

But Redknapp has hit back at Rose and claimed that the player's 'giving up' approach is not going to tackle racism in the right way.

"We are talking about a player who has played at the top of the game so it's so disappointing to hear that," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "It has to be the right man for the job, black or white.

"But when someone like him speaks and says it's pointless going into coaching, that is so disappointing to hear. We have to make sure we have trailblazers.

"When you feel that there is no pathway for you it's such a shame. But it can't also be the right attitude to take. You can't just say it's not going to happen. That's not the right way to look at it.

"Things are changing and they have to change quicker but Danny has to look at it and wonder if it's the right attitude. If everyone was like that we'd have no chance."
