What Jack Simpson will bring to Rangers success as Bournemouth insider tips defender for the top

Incoming signing Jack Simpson will take the move to the high-pressure Rangers environment "in his stride" reckons former Bournemouth coach Carl Fletcher.

The 24-year-old is set to join Steven Gerrard 's side at the end of the season after coming through the ranks at Dean Court.

Welshman Fletcher managed the Simpson in the Cherries youth set-up - and even helped him transition from a midfield role to his current centre-back position.

During his time with the south coast club, Simpson has faced off against Premier League giants including Liverpool and Arsenal, and Fletcher admits he was disappointed to not see him earn more top team appearances.

However, he told BBC Sportsound that the big-game experience will prepare him for scrutiny when he arrives in Glasgow.

Fletcher said: "It's good to see a young academy player come through the way he has done and play some really important games for the first team.

"It's a little bit of a double edged sword because you are always disappointed because it's an academy product you want to see playing in the first team environment.

"Also you are just really happy for them as people that they are going on and doing well. Getting a move to Rangers, we know what a huge club Rangers is, and what a massive opportunity it is.

"He came through as a midfielder but there was maybe not going to be as many first-team opportunities for him in that position so he changed to a centre-half which he adapted to really well. He has a good size, a good height and is comfortable on the ball.

"He was about 17 or 18 at the time when he changed positions and it really benefited. He has a very good understanding of the football environment which will be a huge benefit to Rangers.

"He's a very down to earth lad. He's a really good lad and a good character, so I think whenever you have stepped outside of something you have always know there is always a degree of excitement and stepping out of your comfort zone, but I think it's something he will adapt to no worries, going to Rangers and the size of the club.

"Players going into that environment there is always a transition period but I think Jack will take it in his stride and want to hit the ground running."
