What Jack Ross told his stunned Hibs players in prophetic dressing room message as lights went out at Livingston

Jack Ross predicted his potential Hibs departure in the immediate aftermath of his side’s defeat to Livingston.

The axe fell on the Easter Road gaffer following a 1-0 loss at Livingston – a seventh defeat in nine league games.

And Ross told his stunned players in the dressing room at the Tony Macaroni Arena he didn’t know if if he would still be head coach the following day.

And so it proved.

A source in the despondent away dressing room in west Lothian told Record Sport Online : “It came as a huge shock.

“The manager basically said that he didn’t know if he would still be in charge on Thursday. And that’s how it turned out.”

That admission from Ross – a former boss at Alloa, St Mirren and Sunderland – shows that he sensed it was the end of the road for him in Leith.

The 45-year-old was appointed two years ago and led them to the League Cup semi-final and Scottish Cup final last season.

And Hibs are also in this season’s Premier Sports Cup final where they face Celtic in the final next Sunday but Ross won’t be in the Hampden dug-out.

Scottish Cup-winning captain David Gray will take charge of the side along with Eddie May and Craig Samson.
