What it was like when we visited the newly re-opened M Shed

There is nowhere better to take kids on a rainy day than one of the city's museums.

Luckily, while the beloved buildings were shut during the coronavirus pandemic, wet days were few and far between.

But now forecasters are predicting at least a week of downpours, most parents with pre-schoolers will be looking for ways to keep their little ones amused inside.

The M Shed has always been a firm favourite, with it's climb-on bus, huge play area, opportunity to dress as a shopkeeper and lots more, all entirely free.

But sadly a few of the big attractions for kids have remained closed to ensure the venue is Covid-safe.

The big green bus has its door firmly shut, but to keep it entertaining for kids staff have placed dressed-up gulls at the windows sporting different attire.

And while it wasn't quite as fun as jumping on board, my son really enjoyed seeing them all.

There's still the big map on the floor, where you can spend hours trying to spot your home.

Lots of the interactive stations have been shut down but there's plenty of staff on hand to give you information instead.

The venue has a new one-way system is in place, and you also have to pre-book before you go. We had no problem finding a suitable time-slot, and there were no queues upon arrival.

No visit to the M Shed would be complete without a stop at its cafe. There is now table service in place, but other than that very little seems have changed.

Overall, it was still a lovely, free day out and we both had a great time despite the changes.
