What it's actually like inside iconic mansions that overlook the waterfront

A stretch of huge mansions overlooking the sea has become a Merseyside landmark.

Beach Lawn in Waterloo is a real part of English heritage, with one of the mansions once home to the founder of the shipping company which launched the Titanic.

Further down the terrace - which was built in 1866 - is the house of Captain Edward Smith, the Titanic's Captain.

The seafront properties offer incredible beach and mountain views across Liverpool Bay, the Irish Sea and Welsh mountains.

Aberley House is one of these iconic houses.

The mansion was turned into a bed and breakfast in 2019 and offers guest a unique stay near the Irish Sea.

Images from inside the Grade II listed building show it still retains many of its original character features, including splayed bay windows with panoramic views over the coast, fire places and decorative ceiling rose and coving.

In keeping with the Victorian heritage of the property, a stunning bathroom suite is decorated with a claw foot cast iron bath, fireplace and exposed floorboards.

Outside, there is a Mediterranean garden to the front and a peaceful Roman garden to the rear.

Just a stone’s throw from Crosby Marine Lake and Sefton Coast, where Anthony Gormley’s famous sculptures line Crosby Beach, Aberley House B&B is run by Jonathan Farrer and his partner Yasmin Thompson.

Jonathan told the ECHO : "We feel very fortunate to live and have our business on Beach Lawn.

"We like to give our guests a unique experience so they can imagine how it was to live in a Liverpool Merchant’s house.

"The house is full of pictures and books and the views of Liverpool bay are wonderful. We are also well located for the beach and for trains into central Liverpool."
