There is a new word game taking the internet by storm this New Year.
Wordle is a simple brain teaser game that asks players to solve just one-word puzzle per day.
You may have seen friends family or colleagues sharing their scores online as the game has gone viral on Twitter.
The puzzle site lets you share your score with others, meaning that those playing have got pretty competitive with their followers.
But what exactly is it, how do you play and why has it totally exploded online?
What is Wordle?
Simple but addictive, Worlde is a word game with only one puzzle.
The puzzle is the same for everyone and you play it daily.
All you need to do is guess one single word each time you play - you have six attempts.
Using Wordle's colour coded system, you must try to guess a five-letter word.
The colours give you a little help by letting you know whether a letter is in the right spot or not.
For example, if the letter turns green then you know it is in the correct position.
On the other hand, the letter will turn yellow if it is in the word but just not quite in the right place with the letter turning grey if it is not in the word at all.
If you fancy a challenge, you could turn on 'hard mode' which forces players to use hints given by the game, stopping you from guessing words at random.
As the puzzle is the same for each player, there are way to directly compare yourself to others. Whether it be friends, family members or strangers playing online.
Despite launching almost 200 days ago, Wordle has really blown up over the last week.
Why is Wordle trending on Twitter?
The game has totally blown up on social media with players sharing their scores to easily compare with their followers.
The game is set to be the latest viral trend if Twitter is anything to go by.
The buzz of completing the daily word and letting your pals online know has seen many of us get pretty addicted to the simple little word game
The game gives you the option to share your score on socials after you've completed the puzzle, correct or not.
And so, over the past few weeks or so, you may have seen your friends on social media posting different coloured squares and boasting about their limitless vocabulary.
