What is West Ham's strongest team as Manuel Pellegrini prepares for Aston Villa test

Manuel Pellegrini has a lot of options at his disposal when his players return to Rush Green across this week to report back for training ahead of the trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League next Monday.

One of the players has been spotted at the training ground over the break keeping themselves in tip top condition, Felipe Anderson that man before he headed away for a few days.

Seven Hammers first team players were called up for international duty and will return to the training ground throughout this week with the last two set to arrive being Manuel Lanzini and Fabian Balbuena, who have had arduous journeys over the past few days.

Balbuena played for Paraguay in Japan on Friday before travelling to Jordan for a game on Tuesday, while Lanzini has been in the USA with Argentina and will remain there for a couple more days.

Thankfully for those two, the Hammers don't play until Monday night at Villa Park so they have an extra two days to recover from their big journeys.

Balbuena is still struggling to regain his place in the Hammers team that he has lost to Angelo Ogbonna since the second game of the season when the Paraguayan was dropped for the draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Lanzini meanwhile has been a mainstay all campaign long so far and will remain to do so while he's injury-free and form permitting.

So Lanzini certainly features in the strongest eleven currently available to Pellegrini as he plots a course for the Midlands early next week.

But who else makes it on current form? This is providing those who are on international duty come away unscathed over the next couple of days

Starting XI: Fabianski; Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Masuaku; Rice, Noble, Lanzini, Anderson, Yarmolenko; Haller.

Subs: Roberto, Zabaleta, Wilshere, Balbuena, Sanchez, Fornals, Ajeti.

Not exactly rocket science but that starting eleven is the same team that has won its last two games in the Premier League and that, on current form, is the strongest starting eleven available to Pellegrini right now.

Before his injury, you could feasibly swap out Andriy Yarmolenko for Michail Antonio but the latter could miss the rest of 2019 after undergoing surgery on his injured hamstring.

Where things get tough though is on the bench and who the manager can have to bring on and change the game. You can only have seven and fitting them all in is a tough ask.

Jack Wilshere, on paper, gets in but on current form, does not. Both he and Aaron Cresswell have found themselves out of the squads entirely in recent weeks, Wilshere's has been mainly down to managing his workload following his long-term injury last season.

You have the likes of Robert Snodgrass who can't get a start at the moment either and Pellegrini likes attacking options on his bench so Fornals and Ajeti are more of than not going to be included.  Sanchez is a regular off the bench but could be swapped out for Snodgrass.

It's very rare you see the manager make a defensive substitution unless it's Pablo Zabaleta replacing Ryan Fredericks. Most of his changes come in the midfield area so it makes sense to have both Fornals and Wilshere on the bench.
