What is Viewpoint on ITV? Noel Clarke leads cast of 'claustrophobic' thriller

A 'dark and claustrophobic' new thriller will air every night this week on ITV, with viewers set to be glued to their screens over consecutive nights.

If you're looking for something to take your mind off Line of Duty in the run up to Sunday's series finale, Viewpoint should be going straight to the top of your 'to do' list.

Launching on ITV at 9pm on Monday, the gripping five-part drama is centered on a tense police surveillance investigation into a tight knit Manchester community and explores whether it is ever possible to observe the lives of others with true objectivity and zero effect.

The Viewpoint cast is led by Bulletproof and Adulthood star Noel Clarke, in the role of surveillance detective, DC Martin Young, who sets up his observation post in the home of single mum and secret voyeur, Zoe Sterling, played by No Offence actress Alexandra Roach.

Former CID detective Martin has a troubled past, after being left traumatised by an incident with his work partner, which he blames himself for and was the catalyst behind his decision to switch to surveillance.

The reason for the interest in Zoe is that her house offers a panoramic view of Westbury Square, providing a direct sightline into the home of missing primary school teacher, Gemma Hillman.

Gemma, a new role for The Last Kingdom's Amy Wren, shares the home with boyfriend Greg Sullivan, who also happens to be the prime suspect in her disappearance.

Viewpoint, which also stars well known faces like Coronation Street star turned Strictly contestant Catherine Tyldesley, Hollyoaks and The Fall actress Bronagh Waugh and Whitechapel's Phil Davis, is created and written by award-winning director of No Offence and Harry Bradbeer and Edgar award-winner Ed Whitmore (Safe House and Manhunt).

Commenting on Viewpoint's launch, Executive Producer, Lucy Bedford said: “Harry and Ed have crafted a that turns the spotlight on the observer rather than the observed.

"With the incredible Noel Clarke and Alexandra Roach leading the cast, we are extremely excited to be back in production.”

Anticipation is high for Viewpoint's debut on social media. One expectant viewer tweeted: "Very much looking forward to #ViewPoint. Event television. I just hope it lives up to expectations (which I have no doubt)."

Equally excited to get a first look, another posted: "So with a week to go till the #LineofDuty finale. This week will now be all about #ViewPoint with @NoelClarke on @ITV"
