What is the pink super moon? When is it going to be visible in Ireland in 2020?

It's that time of the month when a lunar phenomenon appears in the sky - and for April 2020, we're getting the pink supermoon!

We love the appearance of different and unique things in the sky, and there are many just like us who also do.

Well you won't have to wait long as there's another supermoon appearing this week.

Here's all you need to know about the pink supermoon coming to Irish skies:

What is the pink moon?

First of all, the moon won't actually be the colour pink. We know, we're disappointed too because that would have looked amazing.

It's actually called the pink moon because of folklore - it's named after an American flower called moss pink that sprouts in early Spring in the US.

When will it appear?

The full supermoon is going to be this coming Wednesday, April 8.

A supermoon is normally bigger and brighter than your average full moon so it'll be quite the sight to see.

What will I see?

Rather than the pink that's in the name, you'll be seeing a very bright moon with a slightly pale orange colour.

What's the best time to take a peek?

While it's not an ideal time, the very early hours of the morning on Wednesday is your best bet.

Are there any other names for the pink moon?

Yes, some of the other names include the sprouting grass moon, the egg moon and the fish moon.
