What is it?

This fun challenge involves kids, dogs and a bowl of treats.

The ' Patience Challenge ' that's currently dominating our social media and involves leaving kids alone with some sweets and filming their reaction.

At the start of the test, parents place the treats in front of their children and tell them not to eat anything until they get back before going into another room.

The adorable reactions of tint tots are captured as they try to resist eating the snacks - and some just can't help themselves.

Some clips show children transfixed on the sweets as they work out what to do, while others look around the room to see if they can quickly sneak a bite.

Other hilarious videos show kids failing spectacularly as they scoff the sweets as soon as they're mum's backs are turned.

Scots dog owners have even been trying the viral challenge on their hounds with hilarious results.

While some obedient pooches are able to wait to eat the treats, others gobble the lot as soon as they are left alone.

Who started it?

The challenge was kick-started by celebrity  Kylie Jenner, who put down a bowl of sweets in front of her two-year-old Stormi and asked her not to eat them until she had returned from the toilet.

Her toddler's adorable reaction inspired social media users across the world to take part with their kids and pets.

It's a little known fact that the challenge goes way back to the 1970s and is based on a famous psychological study called the 'Marshmallow Test'.

The experiment was aimed to examine self-control in children under five to see if they could wait and resist eating one marshmallow if they were promised two later.

Let's face it, it's much more fun as a social media challenge - and is certainly an adorable distraction during lockdown.
