What is the official Euro 2020 anthem and who sings it?

Anthems for major tournaments has become an integral feature of every European Championship and World Cup competition since the 1980s.

And they tend to be fairly hit and miss.

Some songs like World in Motion , Three Lions or Waka Waka and Waving Flag remain indelible and firmly embed in pop culture.

Others like Will Smith’s Live it Up for the 2018 World Cup or Zara Larsson and David Guetta’s This One’s for You for Euro 2016 have been quickly forgotten about and swept under the rug.

The Euro 2020 song will likely feature in the latter.

What is the Euro 2020 song?

Titled We are the People the song was released back in May 13 in order to promote the event.

Sung by Bono, the song features Martin Garrix and The Edge.

It will be played at the opening ceremony in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

UEFA released the following statement about the song:

“ We Are The People hopes to reflect the positivity, hope and determination required for any team to succeed, as well as offering a sense of togetherness, which fits the theme of UEFA EURO 2020 – unity.”

The music video released on Youtube features Bono, Martin Garrix and has a surprise guest appearance from Jason McAteer as well as a number of actors and settings.

Martin Garrix was seemingly pleased with the final product.

“Working with Bono & The Edge on the official song for Euro 2020 has been the craziest experience and I’m so proud of it,” Garrix told his followers on Instagram upon the song’s release.
