What is the ‘Mayo curse’ and how did it finally come to an end?

Mayo's Gaelic football team has ended a 75-year losing streak by winning the All- Ireland championship , securing the Sam Maguire Cup after defeating Kerry 1-20 to 1-17.
The victory is widely seen by fans as the breaking of a long-standing curse, which allegedly began in 1951 when the then-winning team disrespected a funeral on their homecoming route.
According to the myth, a relative of the deceased cursed Mayo, stating they would not win the Sam Maguire Cup again until every member of the 1951 team had passed away.
The last reported surviving member of the 1951 team died in 2021, leading many supporters to believe this paved the way for the current team's historic win.
Fans expressed overwhelming emotion and disbelief at the victory, with captain Jack Coyne telling supporters to 'Never stop dreaming' and declaring, 'The wait is over, SAM is home.'
