What is The Masked Singer? What to know about ITV's new bizarre singing contest

A brand new entertainment show launches on ITV this Saturday night - and it's not like anything we've seen before.

The hit US show - The Masked Singer - has been adapted for UK audiences with an all-star panel of judges.

It's a guessing game that will see 12 famous faces compete to pull off the best performance, with their identity elaborately concealed behind a mask.

This means we'll be watching celebrities belt out songs dressed up as anything from rabbits to monsters.

Although they won’t necessarily be judged on their singing, the celebs will still need to give their best performance to avoid being eliminated and their identities revealed.

Will you join in on the guessing quest at home? (PA)

Viewers at home will be able to join in with the frustrated judges trying to put their finger on who the stars are - with judges including broadcaster Jonathan Ross; chart-topper Rita Ora; presenter Davina McCall; and Hollywood actor and comedian, Ken Jeong - who also appears on the panel in the US version.

The show is hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, who has presented I’m A Celebrity… Extra Camp and Singletown for ITV2.

He said: "I’ve been a huge fan of the show in the US and being a part of it here is a dream come true!

An all-star panel will try to figure out the celebrity behind the mask (PA)

"The panel is brilliant and it’s an incredible idea - I think the UK is going to love it.

"In all seriousness, this is my best chance to become friends with Jonathan Ross and I’m not going to mess it up."

Will you be tuning in?

The Masked Singer begins on Saturday, January 4 at 7pm on ITV.
